In this meditation we will be using UJJAYI breathing when we reach the throat chakra. Ujjayi Pranayama (ooh-JAH-yee prah-nah-YAH-mah) is one technique that helps calm the mind and warm the body. When practicing Ujjayi, you completely fill your lungs, while slightly contracting your throat, and breathing through your nose. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word “ujjayi,” which means “to conquer” or “to be victorious.” Therefore, it is also referred to as “Victorious Breath.” Because of the sound it makes when performed correctly, this breath is also sometimes called “Ocean Breath” or “Hissing Breath.” But, many yoga teachers simply refer to it as “Ujjayi Breath.”

We begin with the ROOT CHAKRA, the colour of the root chakra is red, it symbolizes survival, it is located at the base of the spine and at the feet, we can even feel the energy of the root chakra in our hands as the hands act as dual chakras connecting both to root and the heart chakra. To connect the three points of the root chakra let us sit in cobblers pose: bring the soles of the feet together, with a straight back tilt forward grabbing the feet with your hands. Now to activate the energy in our root chakra begin to rock slowly back and forth. You may stop and hold this position or continue to rock as you focus your energy at your root chakra points for the next minute and a half.

SACRAL CHAKRA, the colour is orange, it symbolizes sexuality and desire, it is located in the lower abdomen area. Now to activate the energy in the sacral chakra rest the palms of your hand on your lower abdomen gently squeezing and releasing this area. You may stop and hold your hands in this position or continue to squeeze and release as you focus your energy here at your sacral chakra.

SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA, the colour is yellow, it symbolizes power and will, it is located in the navel area. Now to activate the energy in the solar plexus chakra rest your left palm on top of your navel area and your right palm on top of your left palm and gently pulsate your hands. You may stop and hold your hands in this position or continue to pulsate as you focus your energy here at your solar plexus chakra.

HEART CHAKRA, the colour is green, it symbolizes love and relationships. Now to activate the energy in your heart chakra bring your fingertips to rest at your center chest. Begin to tap your chest until you can feel the energy present in your chest area then you may rest your hands on your lap.

THROAT CHAKRA, the colour is blue, it symbolizes communication. Now to activate the energy in your throat chakra we will practice ujjayi breathing for the next minute and a half, by breathing in through the nose, completely filling your lungs, contracting your throat slightly and exhaling through the nose so that you make a sound like the ocean.

THIRD EYE CHAKRA, the colour is violet, it symbolizes your intuition and supernatural abilities, it is located between your eyebrows. Now to activate your third eye chakra bring your fingertips of both hands to where your hairline meets your center forehead. Gently begin to tap until you are aware of the energy in your third eye area then you may rest your hands on your lap.

CROWN CHAKRA, here we envision a white light coming in and out of the top of our head. It symbolizes our higher consciousness joining with the universal consciousness. Now to activate your crown chakra bring your fingertips of both hands to the center of the top of your head. Gently begin to tap until you are aware of the energy in your crown chakra area, then you may rest your hands on your lap.
